Email 2 SMS
How does it work?
Users can send an SMS to a single or group of mobile numbers from a specific email address or domain by emailing [mobile]@sms.telecomstats.co.uk or [mobile_group_id]@sms.telecomstats.co.uk:
Access the Service
Log into the portal and go to Mobile Marketing > Email 2 SMS.

Add New User
Click Add New.

Add the email address the user is emailing from.

Or if you want any user from the same domain to have access you can use * as a wildcard.

Email Address
Sender Type
Specify Sender
Choose to have a text originator eg "YourCompany" or a long/mobile number.
Sender
Text: 11 characters.
Number: 16 digits.
Long Number
If you have a long number setup on your account that is linked to an SMS 2 Email service you can select that here from the dropdown.
This can be bypassed by using sender=x in the subject - See Subject Parameters.
Passcode
Alphanumeric passcode up to 10 characters long can be specified that must go in the email subject - See Subject Parameters.
Alphabetic characters: A–Z (uppercase) and a–z (lowercase).
Numeric characters: 0–9.
passcode=ABC123def ✅
Not included: symbols (like @
, #
, %
), spaces, or punctuation.
passcode=ABC 123 def! ❌
Start of Footer Marker
If a generic footer is added to your emails, you can set some text to mark the beginning of this. Any content from this point onwards will be ignored so that SMS messages are not wasted. Ensure this marker is not something that is likely to appear in the message in order to avoid cutting off part of it.
Delivery Reports
Delivery receipts will come from sms_system@sms.telecomstats.co.uk. These will be sent back to the address that sent the email to send the SMS. If No Delivery Reports are configured, you can override this on messages you would like to receive a delivery report on by passing the delivery flag in the Subject Parameters.
Subject Parameters
You can add any of these settings in the subject to alter some of the above settings:
Sender Type: sender=x
Passcode: passcode=x
Delivery Reports: delivery=on
Some variations:
sender=YourCompany passcode=abc123 delivery=on
passcode=abc123 delivery=on
sender=YourCompany
Email body text
The message in the body of the email will be used for the SMS up to the point of any Start of Footer Marker specified in the user settings.
If the email body text length is 160 characters or less, it will be sent as a single SMS. If it is over 160 characters, it will be sent as a multi-part message. This is reassembled at the recipient’s mobile into one long message, but sent as chunks of up to 153 characters.
Recipient interaction
SMS 2 Email
If you plan on the SMS recipient to be able to reply to the message they've received, a Long Number (eg 447777111222) will need to be setup on your account.
This will allow the recipient to reply to the message, which will then be sent to the SMS 2 Email service.
Number Translation (Voice)
The Long Number setup on your account can also allow for voice calls to be made to it, which can be routed through the Number Translation Service and delivered to your own destinations.
